Microscopic Images

»Where the telescope ends the microscope begins, and who can say which has the wider vision?«

Victor Hugo

The ocean is teeming with microscopic plants and animals known collectively as plankton. Each individual organism is tiny, yet, taken as a whole, this floating, drifting community delivers important ecosystem services. On my journey into theses microcosms I meet a lot of species on the way – spiralized cyanobacteria, circular diatoms, armored dinoflagellates, stacked shells, resting states and more wonders.

Still in between wonder and grief about the world, questioning this technique and artistry of representation. What does it mean to transform these beings by placing them in this human/laboratory context? Collect, select, prepare and use them for artistic interpretation?
