Postcards from utopian Bijlmer

Birds don't fly on Thursdays

Work from Open Set Summer School in Bijlmer, Amsterdam

Bijlmermeer was planned by Architects as an utopian city and was realized following this idea. But as life happened, the plans didn‘t add up. Strolling through Bijlmer– although the inhabtors are bursting with color – a feeling of strangeness and oddity occurs. Beneath the human made birds crossing over the neighbourhood men are living in their cage-like buildings and the bird, who shoulb be up in the sky is fallen. This adds up to a monotonous, almost brutal beauty completing the »inception,[that already was there] when it only existed on paper.«
